Steven Fredley is a partner at HWG, where his practice focuses on regulatory compliance and complex civil and white-collar litigation.
Steve most recently served as the Chief Compliance Officer and Deputy General Counsel of Sorenson Communications. In this role, he directed the development and implementation of the company’s compliance programs; identified and assessed areas of compliance risk; oversaw and led internal investigations; evaluated products and service offerings for compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and gained practical insight on aligning compliance initiatives with strategic business goals.
Steve continues to advise clients on their compliance obligations, including:
- counseling on specific regulatory obligations;
- performing gap and risk assessments of existing operations and practices;
- developing compliance mitigation and remediation plans; and
- implementing effective ethics and compliance programs.
Steve has led internal investigations on behalf of corporate clients in response to allegations of wrongdoing and noncompliance with complex federal regulatory requirements. He has also represented corporate and individual clients in responding to criminal and administrative investigations.
An experienced litigator, Steve has represented clients at both the trial and appellate level, and before grand juries, the Department of Justice, and regulatory agencies. He has represented a broad range of clients—from multi-national corporations to individuals—on matters involving antitrust, class actions, breach of contract, privacy, defamation, and telecommunications law. He also has handled a wide range of administrative actions involving regulatory violations, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), fraud, commercial bribery, and campaign finance violations.
