Jackie Terry Hughes is an experienced litigator and advisor to major corporations on risk management and prevention. She works closely with companies to help mitigate risk and keep employees safe through effective insurance strategies, contracting, policy drafting, and accident trending and analytics.
Pharmaceutical/Life Sciences/Consumer Health
Jackie has spent a significant part of her career partnering with an international pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare company. In this role, Jackie oversees claims and litigation in the US, UK and the Republic of Ireland, and works with key stakeholders in these jurisdictions to manage and reduce the possibility of reputational risk associated with claims and litigation. She collaborates with in-house counsel to reduce costs and mitigate litigation while controlling legal expenditures.
Corporate Fleet Safety
Jackie has significant experience helping companies address fleet safety issues with a focus on fleet risk mitigation. She counsels clients regarding effective fleet safety policies and the enforcement of those policies and works closely with fleet accident management vendors to identify trends and reduce risk. Jackie has assisted in the management and resolution of catastrophic fleet litigation matters and organized risk mitigation strategies.
Litigation and Compliance
Jackie has defended pharmaceutical companies, medical device entities, furniture, propane, building products, and automotive manufacturers in federal and state courts, providing strategic counsel, litigating cases, and arguing appeals. Jackie has also been a member of the catastrophic event team. She has experience managing internal investigations and engaging with regulators on product safety issues.
Jackie is a firm believer in managing claims and litigation offensively in a cost effective and realistic manner. She partners with her clients to make the best strategic decision when facing a challenge.
Before joining HWG, Jackie founded a boutique firm focused on risk management and litigation. Prior to that, she was a partner at an Am Law 100 law firm. She is active in the North Carolina community and recently served as the Co-Chair of Wake Invests in Women.

- Managed a number of catastrophic accidents with significant potential for reputational impact to reasonable resolution, some before litigation filed.
- Assisted entities in successful resolution of significant employer liability matters in the UK and Ireland.
- Responsible for drafting company-wide Fleet telematics policies and participate in implementation of same.
