Undersea Cables

HWG has one of the world’s most active undersea cable practices.

We regularly represents and advises undersea cable operators, infrastructure suppliers, maintenance providers, and related trade associations with respect to: telecommunications and competition regulation; environmental regulation and permitting; right-of-way negotiations; trade negotiations, WTO, and market access issues; national security and wiretapping issues; and public international law, particularly jurisdictional and law-of-the-sea matters. HWG also advises these companies on related corporate and commercial matters and negotiations, including: supply contracts; government procurements; construction, operation and maintenance agreements (C&MAs) for consortium-owned infrastructure; backhaul and interconnection agreements; and capacity leases and IRU agreements.
