Amy E. Richardson was recently featured in the June 2025 edition of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, providing comments on ABA Formal Opinion 516. 

The opinion provides guidance to lawyers seeking to end representations under Rule 1.16(b)(1) and the meaning of the rule’s phrase “material adverse effect on the interests of the client.” Amy spoke on the opinion and its dissent regarding the impact of the “hot potato” doctrine. 

Amy is Chair of the firm’s Legal Ethics and Malpractice group. Her practice focuses on legal ethics and professional responsibility matters, white collar defense, and complex commercial litigation. Amy teaches legal ethics and professional responsibility at Duke University School of Law.
