Hilary P. Gerzhoy was recently quoted in the Law360 article entitled “The Year in Legal Ethics: AI, Judicial Scandal and More,” reviewing some of the crucial developments in legal ethics of 2024. The article discussed topics including the evolving guidelines for using Artificial Intelligence in legal practice, the implications of an undisclosed relationship between a former partner and a judge, a disbarred attorney’s legal ethics scandal, and the ethical considerations of remote work for attorneys.
Hilary commented on the inadvertent disobedience of ethics rules amongst attorneys in DC who work remotely, but noted that she “expects bar associations will not be eager to come down hard on attorneys who make honest mistakes. However…more states will likely be looking into their rules in 2025 and beyond.”
Hilary is the Vice Chair of HWG’s legal ethics and malpractice group, Vice Chair of the D.C. Bar’s Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee, a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Legal Ethics, and an adjunct law professor at Georgetown where she teaches legal ethics. Hilary represents lawyers in front of numerous disciplinary bodies at the state and federal level, as well as companies and individuals in a vast range of white-collar criminal investigations.
