HWG LLP Attorneys Tom and Mark will present on UPL issues at the upcoming 2025 Ethics CLE program hosted by the D.C. Bar on November 6. Tom and Mark will lead a practical discussion addressing one of the complex ethical challenges in modern legal practice: the prohibition on UPL. The program will also focus on the requirements of D.C. Court of Appeals Rule 49. Topics will include:

Tom is the founder of HWG’s Legal Ethics and Malpractice group and has experience in malpractice and disqualification litigation, disciplinary investigations and prosecutions, partner admissions and departures, and law firm dissolutions. He is a former chair of the D.C. Bar Legal Ethics and Rules Revisions Committees.

Mark is a partner at HWG and also serves as the firm’s General Counsel. As a litigator, he represents clients in judicial and regulatory proceedings. In addition, he regularly represents clients in matters related to legal ethics, malpractice, and compliance with professional obligations.
