On July 23, Thomas B. Mason presented the D.C. Bar CLE, “Ethics for Lateral Hires 2025,” examining the legal and ethical considerations arising from partner departures and lateral hires. He explored issues including duties owed to clients and colleagues, professional responsibility considerations, and post-departure obligations, and offered best practices for managing disputes and mitigating risk during transitions.
Tom Mason is the founder of HWG’s Legal Ethics and Malpractice group and has experience in malpractice and disqualification litigation, disciplinary investigations and prosecutions, partner admissions and departures, and law firm dissolutions. He is a past Chair of the D.C. Bar Legal Ethics and Rules Revisions Committees.
