On May 22, Kent Bressie presented “International Advisory Body on Submarine Cable Resilience: Setting the Context” at the Strengthening Submarine Fibre Optic Cable Resilience in the Caribbean conference hosted by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations (CANTO), and the Caribbean Data Center Association (CDA).
Kent’s presentation focused on the vital role of the International Advisory Body on Submarine Cable Resilience, of which he serves as Co-Executive Secretary, in supporting the integrity of submarine communication networks. The Advisory Body is a joint initiative of the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC) (the world’s leading organization devoted to cable protection and resilience) and the International Telecommunication Union (the United Nations digital agency). He highlighted the body’s current initiatives to mitigate both natural and human-induced risks, enhance repair and deployment strategies, and promote increased international collaboration for submarine cable protection.
Kent Bressie is Chair of HWG’s international practice, representing clients in telecommunications regulation, foreign investment, and national security. He works extensively in the submarine cable sector, serving as Legal Adviser of the ICPC.
The CTU is an inter-governmental organization that is dedicated to promoting the development of the telecommunications sector in the Caribbean. Their mission to create an environment in partnership is supported through the collaboration amongst members to raise awareness of the telecommunications needs in the Caribbean Region.
