Hilary P. Gerzhoy was quoted in the recently published Law360 article entitled “Legal Ethics Matters to Watch 2025,” which discusses legal ethics issues that will be prevalent in 2025, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the legal field, ethics rules for government attorneys, data breaches, remote practice rules, and an ongoing controversy involving an ex-partner’s relationship with a former judge.

Hilary commented on multiple topics, posing the important question of when using AI will be required to act in a client’s best interests, acknowledging that the advancement of technology makes data privacy and security increasingly important, and sharing her thoughts on the rules for attorneys who work remotely. Hilary “expects states will likely be lenient for attorneys who make honest mistakes” but believes that “rules and approaches will need to adapt to the changing nature of legal work and the increasing ease with which attorneys can perform work for clients in one state while living in another.”

Hilary is the Vice Chair of HWG’s legal ethics and malpractice group, Vice Chair of the D.C. Bar’s Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee, a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Legal Ethics, and an adjunct law professor at Georgetown where she teaches legal ethics. Hilary represents lawyers in front of numerous disciplinary bodies at the state and federal level, as well as companies and individuals in a vast range of white-collar criminal investigations.
