WASHINGTON, DC – HWG LLP welcomes Sean Lev, former General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission and Acting General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Energy, as partner in the firm.

As General Counsel of the FCC, Mr. Lev was responsible for all legal advice provided to the FCC Chair and Commissioners and oversaw all FCC litigation, as well as review of FCC rules, enforcement actions, and other determinations. Before joining the FCC, Sean served as the Acting General Counsel of the United States Department of Energy (DOE). In that role, he was the chief legal officer for the Department, and provided advice on the full range of issues relevant to the Department’s mission, including those involving energy efficiency standards, nuclear energy, renewable energy, oil and gas, environmental reviews and remediation, and national security. Most recently, as the Legal Director of Democracy Forward, a nonprofit public interest law firm, where he oversaw the organization’s legal team and many successful challenges against federal agency decisions in both district and appellate courts.

In addition to his significant government service at the FCC and DOE, Mr. Lev has deep experience advising clients in the private sector, having spent more than fifteen years as a partner of a high-profile Washington, DC law firm. At HWG, Mr. Lev will work with the firm’s communications, energy, and appellate practices.
