WASHINGTON, DC – Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP is pleased to announce that Michael C. Strauss, the former Acting US Executive Director and Acting Ambassador for the United States at the Asian Development Bank, has joined the firm as a partner.

“We are thrilled to have Mike join the firm and expand our international practice,” said Scott Blake Harris, Chairman of Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis. “We have long served clients on cross-border projects and investments, particularly in the communications sector.  We believe that Mike’s unique blend of regulatory experience and diplomacy will assist an even broader group of clients in navigating critical international trade, investment and national security issues.”

At ADB, Mr. Strauss led the US mission and worked in close coordination with US federal agencies.  He played an integral role in initiatives that resulted in the near tripling of ADB’s lending capacity to invest in infrastructure projects and led engagement on matters involving integrity and anti-corruption, institutional legal issues, tax transparency and anti-money laundering policy and procurement reform.

“Harris, Wiltshire, & Grannis has an outstanding reputation for handling extremely sophisticated legal problems while also being a wonderful place to practice law,” said Mr. Strauss, “I look forward to helping expand the firm’s international practice.”

Before representing the United States at ADB, Mr. Strauss served in the US Treasury as a Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for International Finance, where his work focused on the United States’ relations with the G20 and the IMF.   Mr. Strauss has also served as senior legal counsel at the World Bank Group and as legal counsel at the International Monetary Fund.  Mr. Strauss began his career in private practice focusing on capital markets transactions and mergers and acquisitions at Cleary Gottlieb.

Mr. Strauss earned a B.A., cum laude, from Williams College, a M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.

Mr. Strauss is admitted in New York only.  He will practice under the supervision of members of the D.C. Bar.
